Maria do Céu Patrão Neves is Full Professor of Ethics (with Tenure in Philosophical Anthropology), at the Department of Philosophy of the University of the Azores (Portugal), where she is also responsible for teaching and research on applied ethics (mainly bioethics). Currently she is the Advisor for Ethics of Life for the President of the Portuguese Republic. She authored about 170 papers, 7 books, and edited 7 others. She was a Member of the European Parliament, from 2009 to 2014.
