"I am only a housewife" is the saddest response in the world. Can there be anything on God's good earth more important than being a mother and home-maker? I am delighted to be a patron of the Home Renaissance Foundation.”

CV

With her earlier experience of setting up and running three businesses , Leith’s (the Michelin starred restaurant) Leith’s Good Food and Leith’s School of Food and Wine, Prue Leith is now also the Patron of the Prue Leith Chef’s Academy and restaurant in South Africa, and has initiated a charitable training restaurant, Hoxton Apprentice, in Hackney. Her involvement in the areas of food, catering and education has been wide-ranging. She has chaired 3E’s, a not-for-profit company turning round failing state schools, was on the quango that developed the National Vocational Qualifications; chaired the British Food Trust and the RSA (Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufactures & Commerce) and was the Founder chairman of Focus in Food, which is dedicated to teaching children to cook.

Today Prue chairs the Schools Food Trust, which is charged with overseeing the implementation of the nutritional standards for school food that followed the Jamie Oliver TV campaign. Previously a cookery columnist for various newspapers such as the Daily Mail and the Guardian, she has also written a number of cookery books including the best selling Leith’s Cookery Bible with Caroline Waldegrave. Her presence on TV has also been extensive; she has presented a 26 part series and been the subject of two documentaries and her most recent appearance has been the Great British Menu , now in its third series on BBC1.

Prue has also had a parallel career in business, sitting on various boards such as that of British Rail, Safeway, Whitbread, Woolworths, and the Halifax. Presently she is on the boards of Omega International Group plc and Orient-Express Hotels. She has published 3 novels, and her fourth, Choral Society, will be published early next year.
